“Airplanes”
A student reimagining of the popular song by B.o.B. with original lyrics (except chorus)

Chorus:
Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars,
I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now.
Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars,
I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now.

Intro:
We’re here on Rikers Island (The rock), just a few steps from LaGuardia (3 steps).
We can’t see the stars (No stars), but we do hear planes (All Day).
You should know we have the right to rise too (We all have the right).
We’re in a purgatory within a purgatory (Suffering),
So while the walls get grayer (Closer), and the hearts get darker (Shadows), dreams only get brighter (Brighter).
But you know what?

Verse 1:
I was dedicated but now I am simply abominating
Let’s pretend that I was never known as the son of Satan
I want it all but is it there for taking?
Pretend I tasted food from mamma’s kitchen
And daddy gave me way more than just a drunk beating
I pretend that I was raised the greatest
Life wasn’t full of torn pages
I just wish that I was taught the basics
Pretend I didn’t have to learn from the streets survival of the fittest

Verse 2
Lets pretend first time that I got into school
Lets pretend I never follow all of the streets rules
Lets pretend life ain’t about rocking the jewels
Lets pretend all the dreams that I had came true
I had to study everyday to graduate from school
but I had some pretend friends to chill with to be cool
Pretend I ain’t have to live my whole life with a friend
Pretend my parents want a family lets pretend that

(Chorus)

Verse 3
Let’s stop pretending
And imagine, a little like john Lennon
We’re not the only ones when we dream different
Imagine drugs didn’t exist
And the last resort of violence wasn’t a fist
Annihilate the nihilists, find faith from science
And turn cynics into optimists
Strike fear from terrorists
I can see a world with no illness
Where kids can grow to hate ignorance
And keep all their innocence.
